6th Grade Cupcakes

6th graders were introduced to sculpture this year through the works of the famous sculpture artist Claes Oldenburg (work shown below). Students enjoyed sculpting their own cupcakes using laundry detergent caps, newspaper, tape and plaster of paris strips. Students painted their cupcakes using acrylics, added beads for sprinkles and of course a cherry on top using painted air dry clay.

5th Grade Love Birds

5th grade students learned about the African Lovebird. A parrot species native to Africa whose name is derived from spending long hours sitting next to their mates. This was a sculptural project that challenged students to create a 3 dimensional bird. The birds were each painted to mimic the traditional Lovebirds. Students also created a nest for their sweet creatures to perch in.  You will see below how each student's individual personality shines through in their birds!

3 Year Old Pre Schoolers enjoyed this interactive Easter Bunny themed project right before Easter. Many students were hopping around the classroom pretending to be bunnies!

*Star Party/Free Art Day*

2nd Graders enjoy their "Free Art Day/Star Party" they earned from their good behavior. Starting the first day of Art Class students have been working towards earning their Star Party. Each grade had to earn 20 star stickers (posted on the Art Room door) in order to have their party.
Each table is a different station, this class is like any other art class EXCEPT students get to choose what they want to make and are free to create multiple projects.

Station 1: Creative Building
(picture shown below)
Station 2: Blow Paint
(drips of paint blown with a straw)
Station 3: Sculpting
(using model magic to create animals chosen randomly from a cup)
Station 4: Macrame Bracelets
(1:5 student-teacher ratio to learn the famous macrame knot)
Alternation class options:
Free Paint
Bead Necklaces
Pinata's
Rock Painting

Grades K-2 were given certificates to take home to show their families their reward for positive behavior

6th Grade Moonlit Landscapes

Students created mixed media winter landscapes using tape, watercolor, oil pastels and cut cardboard strips. Students learned about wax resist, mixing wet on wet and about directional shadows. Each painting has a diamante poem that corresponds with it. We talked about how important it is for artists to write about their artwork. Students used a form that prompted them to chose similes or verbs to create their diamond shaped poem. The last picture shows a group of students who attended the Bishop Grimes Art and Music Showcase on March 7th in Syracuse NY. They are proudly posing next to their artwork (as well as their classmates work) that was chosen. The work displayed will be entered into the competitive Academic Games competition on Saturday March 29 at Bishop Grimes.
