6th Grade Moonlit Landscapes

Students created mixed media winter landscapes using tape, watercolor, oil pastels and cut cardboard strips. Students learned about wax resist, mixing wet on wet and about directional shadows. Each painting has a diamante poem that corresponds with it. We talked about how important it is for artists to write about their artwork. Students used a form that prompted them to chose similes or verbs to create their diamond shaped poem. The last picture shows a group of students who attended the Bishop Grimes Art and Music Showcase on March 7th in Syracuse NY. They are proudly posing next to their artwork (as well as their classmates work) that was chosen. The work displayed will be entered into the competitive Academic Games competition on Saturday March 29 at Bishop Grimes.

Kindergarten 100 Year Old Self-Portraits

Many kids often don't think of themselves too frequently at the age of 100. The last project was a self-portrait of the students today.  This project, paired with the 100 day of school celebration, challenged students to picture themselves at 100 years old. With their portraits students wrote a description about what they will look like and what they will do at the age of 100. One can't help but to smile when looking and reading at what they have came up with!

We discussed hair loss, hair color and wrinkles! Many laughs and surprised reactions to these common occurrences.
