Stained "Glass" Art

3rd grade learned about the history and technique of stained glass art. Many of the students have seen stained glass windows in churches and some even have stained glass windows at home. Students used a template to create a colorful geometric pattern in permanent marker on transparency paper. These lovely designs are displayed on the windows of our school.

New Years Self-Portraits

We discussed what the term resolution means and students asked themselves what they would do to improve themselves in 2014. Students learned about the basic proportions that make up the face and learned tricks on how to draw facial features.

K & 1 Dancing Snowmen

Did you ever wonder what snowmen do at night? Well, They get together and dance!! Students were read Snowmen at Christmas (a book from the series Snowmen at Night). Students painted with cotton balls aka snowballs on their stacked circles. We discussed the movement of the body when it dances and how torso moves from side to side. Popsicle sticks were added to show how each snowman strikes their own pose. The snowmen were painted orange and blue to mimic the snowmen in the book and how the street lights can create a beautiful creamsicle glow.
