6th Grade Apple Value Study

At the beginning of the school year 6th grade students were introduced to the Elements of Art and the concept of value. Students first created value scales then drew spheres in their sketchbook and added value to them. Students were each given their own apple to study then draw. We discussed how important it is to include a highlight and shadow in your artwork to make it appear realistic. At the end of the project students gathered for an art critique of their apples that were mounted on the wall outside their classroom.
