Just before
Valentines Day 5th graders were introduced to a lesson about "love birds."
In England many
birds returned from the south in February. Partridges and blackbirds built
their nests in mid February.
It was believed that February 14th was the day
birds picked their mates.
Doves mate for life, doves symbolize loyalty and love.
Lovebirds are actually colorful green and red parrots from Africa that sit closely in pairs.
